- 07/13/10 General Recap: Here we are in full swing of the 2010 flying season and what a season it's turning out to be. New technologies are again being introduced by the mainstream manufacturers such as Futaba's new Serial Bus System and the list just goes on and on. Battery technology is making the price of batteries more competitive especially when ordering from off shore, and there's been a new flood of models that are in the high performance category such as the Rifle, so it could be said these are exciting times for modelers. On the home front BAM is in the process of a field cleanup in preparation of its annual Firecracker Fun Fly, with field water and rolling to be done Wednesday the 14th of July. A team worked on the airfield the previous Saturday repairing the runway with sealant to fill cracks. Should also be mentioned that our sister club LaPine RC Flyers were kind enough to give us a section of mat material that allowed us to repair the transition from our blacktop to mat. Thanks to Jim Young and the La Pine guys.
07/13/10 Countdown to the FireCracker: This years Firecracker Fun Fly is shaping up to be really something. The prize lineup is pretty good this year with no less than four airplanes to be given away at either raffles or awarded as participation prizes. Food coach will be available all three days at the ridge to make sure we don't go hungry. We are expecting visitors such as Rick and Joann from Team JR, Bruce Tharpe with his Super Flyin King. Bruce also plans to demo his Pulse Jet Shockwave during the event. Night flying will take place both Friday and Saturday nights so the fun won't stop when the sun goes down. So come out to help, to fly, and to have a really good time.

Popp's Field:
The
water and rolling is behind us for 2010 and the place looks good.
Thanks to Jerry from Bend water hauling for sticking it out with us.
Jerry is actually one of the drivers that has previously done the
field at BAM so he was familiar with "not driving" in certain areas.
Bottom line is it worked out well. The binder we use is getting
really thin, so we don't believe the "hardening" of the infield will
last as long as years past. Had we been able to have two trucks this
year for water, we might have been able to get some of that binder
to float back to the top. We were successful in doing just
that in a few areas, but 4000 gallons of water just isn't enough to
do the job. Thanks to Dave Lawler who stayed out the entire day
rolling with the DD29 roller. I'm sure he will be buzzing in his
sleep due to that vibrator the roller uses. Thanks to Tony Bass,
Dave Lawler, William Rankin and Christopher Rankin.
